What is provided in the cost? The cost includes a professional guide, transport to and from zones, and avalanche safety equipment. The cost for multi-day yurt trips includes all meals also.
What if I don't have touring equipment? Don't sweat it. We have access to an entire rental fleet of equipment for one low rate including: skis, split boards, boots, skins, poles, packs, sleeping bags, and headlamps.
Do you offer trips for just skiers? No, we offer trips for split boarders, also. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer programing for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
What if this is my first time backcountry skiing or split boarding? We always recommend starting off in one of our Introduction to Backcountry touring courses. This will set you up for success.
How do I choose the best colleagues to book a yurt trip with? We recommend booking with a group of friends with a similar ski/ boarding ability/ fitness level. This ensures good group dynamics.
What if I have food allergies or preferences? We plan the menu in advance and are happy to make reasonable accommodations as needed.
Will we be traveling in avalanche terrain? The short answer is yes. All participants are required to have a beacon, probe, shovel, and pack to carry this life saving equipment. If you don't have it, we will provide it to you at no cost. Your guide will plan tours based on many factors. We always consult the avalanche forecast in our area and are familiar with the avalanche problems associated. Our top priority is your safety.
What do sleeping accommodations look like? The Yurt is set up with an open floor plan. There are two bunk beds and two ground level beds. Each level sleeps two people and are outfitted with 3" sleeping pads. Participants typically bring their own sleeping bags unless requested. There is not a lot of privacy.
What is the bathroom situation? The yurt utilizes an vault style outhouse. All toilet paper is paper bagged and burned.
How do we get to the yurt? Most groups are transported to the yurt via a tracked side-by-side or snowmobiles. All equipment is towed by gear sleds.
Will I have cell service? Cell service is not very reliable in Bloomington Canyon. Verizon customers tend to get reasonable service on the deck of the yurt and on most ridge tops.
What If I get injured or sick? Our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders. We carry robust first aid kits, rescue tools, and communications. We train for the worst so you can rest easy.
How many people should I bring on a day trip or multi-day yurt trip? We recommend day trips not exceed 6, and multi-day yurt trips not exceed 8. Keep in mind the larger the group the more logistics and less powder skiing we are able to do.
