AIARE Avalanche Rescue is a one-day stand-alone course that is intended to be retaken on a regular basis in order to keep abreast of best practices in rescue techniques and gear. New participants will expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills. Find the full course description on the AIARE website.

Required Equipment: Beacon, shovel, probe, and backcountry ski or spit-board. Uphill travel is required.

Prerequisite: You must be comfortable, efficient, and confident using your uphill travel equipment and riding in deep powder and variable conditions. Please get out into the field before the course. If your ability in the field does not meet these standards, you may be excused from the course without a refund. No snowshoes are allowed in this course.

This is not your typical level 1 course! We will be staging from North Beach Flats in Luxury on day 1, and transitioning to our Beautiful Bloomington Canyon Yurt for day 2/3. This is a low ratio 6-1 course for optimal learning. This course will include sleeping accommodations at the North Beach Flats (condos) on day 1 and Bloomington Canyon yurt on day 2. This course will also include meals and transportation to and from yurt. This course is intended to fully immerse students into back-country skiing/split boarding with fewer distractions. . The AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management.
Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, to understand basic decision-making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught).
At the end of the AIARE 1 course, the student should be able to:
